Australia has over 7000 beaches on 26,000km of coastline. 112,600 Surf Life Savers patrol these beaches and rescue about 10,000 people a year. They do it year around and are constantly training.
When we were in Thirroul, there was a group of new, young Life Savers training off of the beach. They would run down the beach, jump in a Zodiac, start the engine, tear off at full speed, catch air off of the waves, yank someone out of the water, return at full speed while again hitting the waves, jump out of the boat, run up the beach and around a traffic cone, and then run back to the other Life Savers where they would tag the next group who would do the same thing. They did it for hours.
One pair of girls had trouble getting the boat started so they spent at least half an hour doing nothing but running to a boat, jumping in, and starting it.
If you’re going swimming on a patrolled Australian beach (between the red and yellow flags) then you can rest assured that someone is watching out for your well being. -jp

Australien hat über 7000 Strände an 26.000km Küste. 112.600 Rettungsschwimmer bewachen diese Strände und retten jährlich an die 10.000 Menschen. Sie sind ständig im Training und das das ganze Jahr über.
Als wir in Thirroul waren, hat gerade eine junge Gruppe Rettungsschwimmer die Rettung per Boot trainiert. Sie sind wie wahnsinnig mit ihrem kleinen Gummiboot mit voller Geschwindigkeit über die Wellen gesprungen und haben während des umlenkens einfach so eine zu rettende Person in Boot gezogen. Wenn man nicht genau geschaut hat, hat man es überhaupt nicht gesehen, dass jemand ins Boot gezogen wurde, nur plötzlich war einer mehr im Boot – bemerkenswert! -mk
