They’re remaking the greatest Cold War movie ever

The best movie to come out of the 80′s that didn’t involve Harrison Ford is Red Dawn.  Well, Breakfast Club is pretty good too but Red Dawn was better.  For those of you who are too young to remember, or never heard of it because you lived in a Communist country at the time, Red Dawn is a movie about the Soviet and Cuban invasion of America in World War 3.  A band of high school students led by Patrick Swayze take up guerilla warfare in the woods of Colorado fighting the Soviets.  If you haven’t seen it, you must.  If you can get past the wooden acting and silly idea that some high school kids can outfox and destroy Soviet Army and Spetznez forces then it’s really a great film.  In the 80′s, the invasion of America, nuclear war, and WW3 was certainly a possibility that most people in the US expected would eventually come.

Anyway, I just noticed on IMDB that they’re remaking it.  I have no idea who the invading army is going to be but there is no current threat that is anywhere near as frightening as the thought of Soviets was in the 80′s.  Frankly, this is a movie that doesn’t need to be remade because it was already as good as it could ever be made.

It does, however, need to be put on iTunes so I can buy it. -jp
