Atherton Tablelands

Barron Falls

We went to the Atherton Tablelands, which is southwest of Cairns, inland, for the day.  The towns along the way look like they stopped advancing in 1899.  Plenty of parks and windy roads and waterfalls.  In fact, the shot above is Barron Falls near Kuranda.  There was a huge Chinese population in Atherton at one time. There was even a Chinatown.  The last standing building is the old temple. -jp

Jahrhunderts. -mk

Botanical Gardens Cairns

5 08 2009

One afternoon, we went to the botanical gardens in Cairns.  It was quaint.  Actually, it was nice going to a garden where they didn’t have Banksia.  Usually, they really trump up how great the tree is when basically it just looks like a tree with a ton of those fuzzy news microphones all over it.  Anyway, they didn’t have that here.  They did, however, have a section about plants and how the Aboriginals use them.  That was pretty cool.  Hard to argue with the price, too.  Free!

Botanische Gärten in Cairns

-mk

Post number 100

Why the Christmas tree? Because we started the blog in December.

Why the Christmas tree? Because we started the blog in December.

Yay!  This is post number 100.  In about 200ish days since we started the blog.  That’s about one entry for every two days.  So quit complaining that we don’t post enough! -jp

-mk

Ashes Ashes we all fall down

3 08 2009

The third test of The 2009 Ashes has ended in… a draw.  That means two out of three tests have been a draw.  That means in 15 days, over two solid weeks of playing, there’s only been one winning result.  How annoying is that?

I like Cricket but I can’t really handle five day tests.  They play for five days and it could well end in a draw.  One days are better.  People try harder and you get high scoring games and they’re over by the time Simpsons comes on.  Way better. -jp

Finally a return to diving

It looks like Nemo found his way into a wind tunnel

It looks like Nemo found his way into a wind tunnel

We finally got back in the water.  Monique has her new gear and I got a replacement camera and a new wetsuit since I was tired ot freezing my ass off.  Good news is the problem was indeed the camera and not the housing so we’re back in business.

We went diving with Tusa T5 and a friend of ours, Tim from Koh Tao, joined us.  The visibility was pretty mediocre and I couldn’t equalize on the first dive because of my cold/flu/whatever it was (104.5° fever… my new personal record) but other than that it wasn’t bad.  Mostly, we were making sure all our new gear works and we’re happy and ready for more diving in a couple of weeks. -jp

-mk

Again with the lack of updates

1 08 2009

Hippy signpost in Kuranda

Hippy signpost in Kuranda

People have been asking what’s with the lack of updates.  Honestly, we haven’t done much.  I was sick for a week and other than that we’ve just been relaxing and hanging out.  We went to Kuranda but even had to cut that short because it started raining.  Ah well, new stuff will hopefully be worth the wait. -jp

Was wir machen?

-mk
