The Kimberly region of Western Australia is about 35% larger than Germany, with a

population of 38,000 scattered across 6 towns and a bunch of mines and cattle stations.  If you saw the movie Australia, which we haven’t, the Kimberley plays a part of the background or something.  I guess we need to see it.

Our first stop in the Kimberley was The Bungle Bungles Range.  A couple of weeks ago someone in a caravan park told us not to bother with The Bungle Bungles because it’s a lot of painful driving with no reward.  We’re glad we didn’t listen to that crackhead.

The park has, of course, badass trees and awesome rocks.  But the rocks are what made this place a World Heritage area.  There you find striped rock domes as well as some pretty stunning chasms.  The area wasn’t “discovered” until the mid-1980s.  How cool is that?  This country is so big and unexplored that something like this was found just 25 years ago. -jp

Die Kimberleys / Die Bungle Bungles

Die Kimberleys ist eine Nationalparkregion 35% größer als Deutschland und mit nur 38.000 Einwohnern. Kein Wunder, hier würd ich auch nicht wohnen wollen. Es ist schön, keine Frage! Nette Schluchten, tolle Bergformationen etc. aber diese Hitze, das ist unerträglich. Ich glaube wir hatten hier mind. 45 Grad Celsius!! Echt und dabei zu wandern ist einfach nur zum dahin schmelzen und das nicht im positiven Sinne

Da wir ja aber nicht doof sind, sind wir früh um 5Uhr (!) aufgestanden und haben den “kühlen” Morgen genutzt uns die wirklich atemberaubende Natur anzuschauen. -mk
