First the bad news. The mantas no-showed. However, the diving was great and we got good grey nurse shark photos this time. The town itself is more of an outpost for diving and snorkeling. There’s only one street and it’s not very long. There’s only one dive shop but they’re very good.
If you go to the town beach and walk far enough you’ll come across Skeleton Bay. It’s a reef shark nursery which you’re not allowed to swim in, dammit. I went there and stood in knee deep water for 45 minutes trying to get them to come closer but I couldn’t get them closer than about 2 meters. -jp
In Coral Bay hatten wir eine Schnorcheltour mit den Mantas und 2 Tauchgänge gebucht. Was ich vorher nicht wußte, die Mantas werden nicht garantiert. Hm, so ein Mist und so kam es dann wirklich, dass wir keine Manta Rochen gesehen haben. Da waren wir echt traurig! Jeder Taucher will einmal im Leben mit Manta Rochen getaucht sein! Naja, wie auch immer, Natur ist Natur… Trotzallem hatten wir 2 super coole Tauchgänge, denn wir haben beim 1. Tauchgang gleich 5 oder 6 Blaupunktrochen gesehen, die um uns herumgeschwommen sind und sich teilweise von Putzerfischen haben putzen lassen. Und beim 2. Tauchgang sind wir an dem zu Hause der sogenannten Matilda vorbeigetaucht. Sie ist ein ca. 2 m großer Grey Nurse Shark. Keine Angst Mutti, die sehen nur gruselig aus!
