The dinner background

31 01 2010

This was tonight’s background during my shrimp and scallop dinner.  Damn, this place is great.  Could use some rain though.  I think we’re on 75 days or so.  The north end of the state has more rain than they’ve ever seen, with cyclone after cyclone hitting them.  Maybe they can send some of that down here.

Until then we’ll get more shrimp.  Feel free to join us! -jp

One Year

29 01 2010

Packed and ready to leave Munich.

One year ago today we left Germany.  Since then we went to Thailand for a couple of months and did a lot of diving, came to Australia, bought a Land Cruiser, went up the East Coast, down to the Red Center, up to Darwin, across to the West Coast, and down the coast to Perth.  And then we stopped.  Check out the archives if you missed any of it! -jp

We had clouds

25 01 2010

ZOMG we had some evening clouds.  It’s such a rarity that I had to take a photo just in case it doesn’t happen again for awhile. -jp

Perth at 24mm

24 01 2010

So I took my camera out with only the 24mm lens on it just for fun.  I was sweating like crazy walking around downtown Perth and finally found out it was 43C/107F.  The things I do for you people.  Anyway, here’s a gallery of shots I got before the heat drove me to find a shopping mall. -jp

64 days without rain

22 01 2010

The benefit of no rain: no clouds.

The last time we had rain here was the 20th of November, 2009.  And there is none on the forecast.  That’s 64 days without rain.  64.  That’s a huge number and even harder to fathom after moving here from Germany where you’re lucky if you can go 64 hours without rain.

Since I don’t have a drought photo, above is a photo of the sunset over (well, at this point it’s behind) the Indian Ocean from our balcony.  It looks like that pretty much every day.  It’s not like it gets cloudy and rains. -jp

This post is for Tony

13 01 2010

About a month after we moved to Fremantle, I was chatting with my buddy Tony who asked me if I’d been to Bon Scott’s grave or monument.  Well, I didn’t even know the guy was from here.  So I set off to have a beer one day and came across the Bon Scott monument at Fishing Boat Harbour across the street from Cicerello’s.  So check it out, Tony.  Here it is.

Best Toilet Ever

12 01 2010

Yep. Now fish can watch you pee.

Behind the urinals at Cicerello’s fish and chips shop in Fremantle (and for that matter everywhere else in the building), is a big aquarium.  So if you think it’s hilarious to have Nemo watch you have a slash, then this is your place.

Swan Valley

10 01 2010

We went on a trip to Swan Valley with my parents one day when they were here visiting.  Swan Valley is East-Northeast of Perth and is a small wine growing region.  It gets almost no respect but is actually pretty good.  We were driven around by a guy named Justin who took us to some wineries, a brewery, and the chocolate factory.  In the middle he cooked a lunch of Aussie tucker… kangaroo, crocodile, emu, and beef.  Tasty!

Swan Valley is here.
