These places we’ve eaten at. Here’s what we thought of them.
In diesen Restaurants haben wir gegessen. Hier was wir davon halten.
BANGKOK
Blue Elephant: Great place and worth the price. It’s a top quality meal for the price of a medium quality meal in SF or Munich. (take care… smart casual dress code!)
Fuji: Japanese restaurant chain with a lot of food choices, all very good. The price is a joke. Ambiance is pretty unimpressive but the quality to price ratio is incredible.
Japanische Restaurantkette mit großer Auswahl. Alles sehr gut.
Zen: Japanese restaurant chain with higher quality than Fuji but double the price. Not, however, double the quality. Much nicer setting. Very stylish.
Sehr stylisch.
Coffee Shop in Baiyoke Sky: If you’re anywhere near the Baiyoke Sky, don’t miss the coffee shop for the best tempura prawns we could find (and yes, we looked). Price compared Europe or US is laughable.
KOH TAO
Lucky Crab: Beachfront grilling. Meat kebabs, seafood, and the smallest baked potato in the world. The seafood was great, though.
Farangos, Sairee Beach: Really good pizza and pasta, despite the fact that there are no Italians anywhere near it. Well, in the case of pizza then it should read “despite the fact that there are no Americans anywhere near it” since we all know Americans invented pizza. And in case you’re thinking it was the Italians then riddle me this, dolt: where would they have gotten the tomatoes?
Booya.
Koh Samui
Yamato – GREAT sushi. If you’re in Koh Samui, do yourself a favor and check this place out. The tempura is top notch, the sake is quality, and the sushi just rocks. The price was very good too.
Any restaurant in Koh Samui (or anywhere else) that serves shark – Please don’t go to these restaurants unless it’s to walk in, tell the manager you would never eat anywhere that serves shark, and walk right out again. It’s up to you if you want to burn the place down or not.
Cairns, Australia
The sushi train place in Orchid Plaza: Don’t confuse it with Sushi Train, a chain around Cairns. This place is far superior with a $2.50 per plate happy hour from 5-6pm. The best part is if you don’t see what you want you can order it and it’s still only $2.50.
Corea Corea: Also in Orchid Plaza, this Korean fast food is healthy, cheap, fresh, and piping hot. We recommend the spicy pork on the hot plate. Yum!
Chopstix: Don’t waste your time at Noodle Box. Go to Orchid Plaza and have lunch at Chopstix. The noodle dishes are great and they’ll make them how you want them. Cheap, too.
Rattle and Hum: This bar and grill is on the Esplanade. They have happy hour from 5-7 where drinks are cheap and you can get one of the menu items cheap but we always had the pizza when we were there. They have a wood fired stove there, unlike the “proper” Italian places nearby.
