If you want to see the best diving in Thailand, then you need to go to the Similan Islands. The gateway to the island chain is Khao Lak. It’s a different sort of place than Koh Tao. There are quite a number of older people than you’d find in Koh Tao. Also it was leveled by the tsunami of 2004 but you couldn’t tell to look at it now.
We went diving with Wicked Diving. Great people and, importantly, they believe in actually doing something for conservation and for the local economy. Thus, they used biofuel, biodegradable soap and shampoo, things like that. Also the nik-naks and soap and other things given to us were made at an orphanage full of orphaned Thai children who survived the tsunami.
We thought this time instead of just putting out one huge gallery with no description we’d split it up and show the photos from each of the cameras and some of the photo highlights. So included in the gallery here are photos of a harlequin trigger fish (7720 and 7721) and a mantis shrimp (7722), as well as some nudibranchs and a turtle. Yay turtles! Everyone lives turtles!
Also there’s a “before” shot of me at the foot massage place. I don’t know why that’s in there. -jp
-mk
