Have another on the Devil

28 09 2009

We arrived in Katherine and didn’t do anything all day but chill out and swim.  So here’s another HDR photo of the Devils Marbles for you.

By the way, you can click on almost all of these photos on the front page and it will take you to a Flickr album of most of the photos that appear on this travelogue.  When you get to Flickr you can click the photo again and then click on “ALL SIZES” above it and then you’ll see a much larger version of the photo.  Even larger than the photos on the Apple galleries that we make.  Also the photos on this page usually aren’t in the galleries so this is the only way you’re going to see a bigger one.  Typically, it’s worth looking at the bigger version.  At least we think so.

Katherine is here.  We highly recommend the Big4 campground if you come here.

Devils Marbles

It could fall over any day now. Just like for the last 50,000 years.

Devil’s Marbles.  Just the name is cool. It’s worth stopping just to see what kind of place would warrant a bitchin’ title like Devil’s Marbles.  It turns out it’s more rocks.  But these rocks are tight.  Basically, they started out as a big chunk of granite under the surface of the local area and then over a few (million) years it all eroded away.  The dirt as well as rock.  One day those boulders will be gone and there will just be a big pile of red gravel in its place.  Perhaps there will be different cool looking piles of rocks.  One only hopes. -jp

Devil’s Marbles (Teufels Murmeln)

-mk
